Mcdonalds in India

mcdonalds indiaI recently went to a McDonalds. I know…I’m ashamed to say it out loud.

I had a good reason though I swear! The McDonalds was PACKED. I have never seen such a busy McDonalds anywhere. On this occasion I was walking through Connaught Place, an upmarket area of New Delhi, and walked by what appeared to be a frenzy in the fast food chain. So, naturally inquisitive, I took a peak inside. Alas, there was no frenzy, just an absurd amount of people packed into the restaurant. After taking a look at the menu, how could I pass up experiencing a “Chicken Maharaja Mac”, “McAloo Tikki”, or “Veg Surprise”?

Actually, I did pass on the “Veg Surprise”, it is McDonalds after all…

The sandwiches were about 50 cents (upmarket item for most Indians), and the only thing I recognized on the menu aside from french fries was the “Filet O’ Fish.” Every other item had an Indian spin. The taste of the sandwiches was exactly as I expected. Overly processed and crafted flavor, with subtle Indian spices. McDonalds is a huge hit in India, but soon they too will realize that as their population grows in numbers, eating at McDonalds will also make them grow in size. Hopefully they’ll learn faster than Americans.
